* Update: Police officers arrested over Pt. Pedro shooting remanded till July 24

July 10, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today remanded the two police officers arrested for fatal shooting at a truck illegally transporting sand at a checkpoint in Point Pedro, Jaffna.

Point Pedro Magistrate remanded a Sub Inspector and a Police Constable, attached to the Point Pedro Police Station till July 24 in connection with the shooting.

The 25-year-old lorry driver, Yogarasa Dinesh of Karaveddy, Nelliadi was killed Sunday when police opened fire at the truck illegally transporting sand failed to heed police orders to stop at a check point in Manalkadu area of Point Pedro.

Police said Sub Inspector Shiwarasa Sanjeewa and PC Mohammad Mubarak were suspended following the incident.
