* National Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Week declared from Feb 6-12

Jan 10, Colombo: The government has declared the week from 06th February to 12th February as the "National Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Week" with the aim of creating healthy, happy and energetic Sri Lankan generation, President's Media Division said.

During the week numerous sports and physical fitness promotion programs are scheduled to be launched across the country.

A discussion in this regard was held at the Presidential Secretariat, today (10) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and during the meeting the President instructed the officials to implement this program taking the contribution of all the relevant sectors.

The President also pointed out the importance of implementing programs to promote the mental well-being of the people as well as the physical fitness. Many programs have been scheduled to implement in this regard.

Each day of the National Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Week has been allocated for a specific group.

Accordingly, 06th February has been declared as State and Corporation officials Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day.

February 07 - Private Sector Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

February 08 - Mother and child Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

February 09 - Women Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

February 10 - Adults and differently-abled persons Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

February 11 - Youth Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

February 12 - Community Participation Day of Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day

Ministers and MPs, including the Minister of Sports, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, W. D. J. Senevirathne, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Chandrani Bandara, Secretaries to the Ministries, Heads of the Departments and the public officials participated in the discussion.
