Fri, Jan 6, 2017, 11:49 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Friday opened a glove manufacturing plant in the Free Trade Zone in Koggala in Matara district.

The manufacturing plant opened to coincide with the President Maithripala Sirisena’s second anniversary celebration in office is expected to generate 7,000 job opportunities for the youth.

The Premier, recalling that he as the Minister of Industry Development inaugurated the Koggala Free Investment promotion Zone in 1994, said the FTZ has not only provided the people of the region with employment, but has also greatly benefited Sri Lanka's economy over the last two decades.

"It gives me immense joy to be able to open this glove factory as the final development project of the Zone. It is my belief that this factory will generate over 7,000 job opportunities for the youth of our nation," the Prime Minister said.

British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka James Dauris, Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake, and the Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody also participated in the occasion.
