* Eight arrested for attempting to travel to New Zealand illegally by boat

Feb 17, Colombo: Eight individuals, who had attempted to travel to New Zealand illegally by boat have been arrested by the law enforcement personnel in Negombo on Thursday, police said.

They have been arrested in Negombo when they attempted to leave for New Zealand by boat and handed over to Katana Police.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 42 years, are residents of Marawila, Negombo, Kalmunai and Mullaitivu areas.

The suspects will be produced at the Negombo Magistrate's Court today. Katana police are conducting further investigations.
