* Youth arrested for possessing counterfeit notes worth over Rs. 2.8 million

Feb 12, Colombo: The Police arrested a youth in Horana today for possessing counterfeit notes worth nearly Rs. 2.9 million.

The 23-year-old suspect, a resident of Weligampitiya, Pokunuwita, was apprehended following a raid on Sunday in Moragahahena, Horana conducted on a tip off received by the Horana police.

According to police, at the time of the arrest, the suspect was in the possession of 106 counterfeit notes of the Rs. 5,000, 1830 fake notes of Rs. 1,000 and 1079 fake notes of Rs. 500 denominations totaling up to Rs. 2,899,500.

The police have also seized a computer, a scanner and a printer used for producing the fake notes during the raid.

The suspect will be produced before the Horana Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
