Sun, Feb 12, 2017, 10:56 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 12, Colombo: Minister Rauf Hakeem has been reappointed as the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) for the 17th time at the Party's 27th general assembly held at the BMICH today.

Mohamed Mansoor Cader was appointed as the General Secretary of the party while the SLMC constitution was amended to exclude the post of Secretary General.

Meanwhile, the position of president is still vacant as Hassan Ali was not ready to accept it. Minister Rauf Hakeem said that the vacancy will be filled soon. The Minister said party will undergo more transformations in the near future.

The Minister while noting that minority parties played an important role in forming the government based on good governance principals, said the new constitution, new electoral system or delimitation of local government areas should not make any injustice to any ethnic group in the country.
