Feb 12, Colombo: Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senaratne will hold a discussion with the deans of medical faculties at state universitites on Wednesday to discuss the issue regarding the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in Malabe and the standards of the medical education.

Speaking at a meeting with a group of medical officers held at the Health Ministry, Minister Senaratne said deans of the medical faculties of the government universities have submitted a proposal to him to resolve the issue.

Stressing that he has no any personnel connection with SAITM, the Minster said that a correct decision would be taken by looking at the problem of the private medical college in a sensitive manner to give reasonable solution.

He further said that students' protests against the private medical college is natural but the conduct of some political parties is confusing. He added that the owner of the SAITM also worked closely with the former president.

Deans of medical faculties of Colombo, Ragama, Karapitiya, Rajrata, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Peradeniya and Sri Jayewardenepura universities have submitted proposals on resolving the SAITM issue while meting out justice to the students currently studying at SAITM.
