* France extends condolences on the deaths in the landfill disaster in Sri Lanka

Apr 19, Colombo: France expressed its shock at the collapse of the Meethotamulla garbage dump in Sri Lanka, which claimed the lives of 32 people.

"We were deeply shocked to learn of the death of numerous people in the collapse of the garbage dump in Meethotamulla on 14, April 2017," the French Embassy in Colombo said in media release issued today.

Extending condolences to the victims' families, France offered support to the government and people of Sri Lanka.

"France extends its condolences to the victims' families. We extend our support and solidarity to the Sri Lankan authorities and people at this painful time," the release said.
