* Sri Lankan President urges district officials to complete work on time on development projects
Wed, Apr 19, 2017, 12:19 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 18, Polonnaruwa: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today urged the district officials to complete development projects in their district on time and vest with the people.

The President made this observation on Tuesday when he presided the Polonnaruwa District special coordinating committee meeting at the Pulathisipura National Education Academy Auditorium.

President Sirisena held a lengthy discussion reviewing the progress of the district development projects and future actions of the projects currently being implemented. Focusing his attention on projects which are facing development issues, the President reiterated that the aim of all development projects is to alleviate poverty and identify developmental frailties.

He added that provincial meetings should be held monthly to review the progress of development projects. However such meetings have not been held during the whole year due to inability of ministers and district officials to meet. Therefore, the President suggested the relevant officials to prepare a time table for the whole year scheduling the meetings in advance and send the schedule by mail to all the relevant heads of government institutions and officials to ensure their attendance at the meetings.

After the meeting the President participated in an observation visit to inspect several new projects in the district. He directed officials to take necessary measures to cultivate farmlands which were neglected under the cover of development. He also inspected the Kaduruwela town development program. The President directed the officials to complete work on time and vest those projects on the people soon.
