Sat, Apr 15, 2017, 10:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 15, Colombo: While accidents related to the New Year season have not been reported this year's festive season, the number of road accidents have not seen a significant decline compared to the last year, the Director of the Colombo National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

He said that 203 patients have been brought to the hospital last year and it is 184 this year which is a reduction of about 16 percent. Out of those 72 had been admitted to the hospital this year and 98 last year.

However, Director of the Sri Jayawardena Hospital Dr. Susitha Senaratne said that there is a marked decrease of patients admitted to Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital due to accidents. Dr. Senaratne said that eight patients had been admitted to the hospital on 13th and 14th due to accidents. He said that three children were admitted due to accidents related to lighting of fire crackers.

Sri Lanka's hospitals island wide are on alert to provide immediate treatment to accident victims while the police have urged the public to celebrate the New Year peacefully.
