* Pakistani national arrested at BIA with over 1 kg of heroin handed over to PNB

Apr 15, Colombo: A Pakistani national taken into custody with heroin in his possession by customs authorities has been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB). The Katunayake Unit of the PNB is carrying out further investigations according to a statement issued by the police headquarters.

The 37-year-old Pakistani national has arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake, yesterday evening from Dubai via an Emirates flight was taken into custody on suspicion by the Customs.

The stock of heroin was discovered when he was examined. Police said 1.12 kilograms of heroin was found hidden in the soles of his shoes.

The suspect was produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court. Acting magistrate Swarna Perera granted permission to the Anti-Narcotic Bureau to detain the suspect until the 19th April and question him.
