* National Media Center is not to censor media, aims to build reconciliation - Chairman

Oct 11, Colombo: The purpose of establishing the National Media Center by the government is to build reconciliation through media and enlighten the public on the government's development process, and not to censor the media, its chairman former Media Minister Imtiaz Bakeer Markar said.

Paying a courtesy call on the Chief Prelates in Kandy, the NMC Chairman said that assistance will be obtained from the Department of Government Information for the above purpose.

He rejected the allegations that the NMC was established to bring a media censorship in the country and said that he would work understanding the responsibility of the media in building reconciliation.

The government established the NMC under the Prime Minister's Office with the aim of disseminating trustworthy and accurate information to the public. All news both national and international will be instantly analyzed and disseminated to the public. Responses will also be made through the center.
