* Sri Lankan President calls for unity and reconciliation during festive season

Dec 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka' President Maithripala Sirisena says the religion is one of the most precious guiding lights of human civilization and all individuals should practice the teachings of peace, unity and patience as taught in respective religions.

Speaking at a special Christmas celebration held for the Christian devotees at the President's House on Friday, the President said Jesus Christ was a great messenger of peace and reconciliation and called on citizens of all ethnicities to join hands in brotherhood and unity during this festive season.

The President said peace and harmony should be exercised in Sri Lanka as it has become a necessity across the world.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and several others were present at the function held last evening.

President Sirisena also graced the Sirasa Christmas Zone yesterday evening as a special guest. He was welcomed to the Christmas Zone by senior officials of The Capital Maharaja Organization Limited.

The Sirasa Christmas Zone is taking place at the MTV/MBC Head Office premises located down Braybrooke Street in Colombo.

The President also visited the exposition of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, blessed by Pope Francis and thereafter lit the colorful lighting at the Christmas Zone.
