* New chief ministers appointed for Western and North Western Provinces

Sept 08, Colombo: New Chief Ministers have been appointed for the Western and the North Western Provinces to fill the positions vacated by the former chief ministers after they were elected to parliament at the general election.

Accordingly, Western Provincial Councilor Isura Devapriya was appointed as the Western Province Chief Minister while Dharmasiri Dassanayake was appointed as the North Western Province Chief Minister.

The positions were vacated when Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and North Western Province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara were elected to Parliament.

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday met the UPFA Provincial Councilors from Western and North Western Provincial Councils to discuss the replacement of Chief Ministers in the two councils.

The decisions on the new chief ministers were taken following the meetings with the President.
