* New members appointed to independent commissions

Oct 21, Colombo: Three new members have been appointed to the Commission to Investigate the Allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday.

According to the Director General of the Commission Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, Justice Titus Bodhipala Weerasuriya has been appointed the Chairman of the Bribery Commission.

Justice Lal Ranjith Silva and Senior Superintendent of Police Chandranath Neville Guruge have been appointed as members of the Commission.

Meanwhile, D. Dissanayake has been appointed as the Chairman of the Public Services Commission. A.W.A. Salam, M.S. Seneviratne, Dhara Wijethilake, P. Ramunujan, R. Ranukge, Sarath Jayatilleka and V. Jegarajasingham are other members of the PSC.

Under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, Constitutional Council is the responsible body to appoint members to the independent commissions such as bribery commission and election commission.

The independent commissions to be established are the Elections, Public Services, Police, Auditing, Human Rights, Finance, Demarcation of Boundaries, Bribery or Corruption, and National Procurement.

Prof. Siri Hettige has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Police Commission.
