Nov 14, Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena has offered "thoughts and prayers" to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris in which over 153 people have been killed.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the attacks in Paris tonight," President Sirisena said.
Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed shock over the incident and Sri Lanka understands the devastation.
"Shocking news from Paris today. Sri Lankans understand all too well how devastating this is. I pray for the families of those killed," Rajapaksa said in a Twitter message.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said no reports of Sri Lankans were hurt in the coordinated attacks at several sites in Paris and the officials in Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris are in contact with relevant authorities in France to gather information on any Sri Lankans who may have been affected by the attacks.
A hotline has been established and Sri Lankans in Paris who need assistance can contact Col. Nazeer Majeed at +33620505232 or Deputy Chief of Mission Ms Gunasekera at 33677048117 Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson said.
At least 120 people have been killed and 200 hurt, 80 seriously, in attacks striking several entertainment venues in Paris. President Francois Hollande has declared a state of emergency and sealed the country's borders.
