Nov 08, Colombo: The United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap today extending condolences on the passing of the Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero commended the late Thero's efforts to protect democracy.

"On behalf of the men and women of the Embassy of the United States of America, I extend condolences to the people and Government of Sri Lanka on the passing of the Venerable Madhuluwawe Sobitha Thero."

"The late Thero was respected for his efforts to nurture and protect democracy, promote respect for people of all faiths, and improve the lives of all Sri Lankans," Ambassador Keshap said.

Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero, who was instrumental in changing Sri Lanka's political regime this year, passed away Sunday at the age of 73.
