* Sri Lanka main opposition party's 68th anniversary celebrations tomorrow

Sept 05, Colombo: The 68th anniversary of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) will be held tomorrow (September 06th) at the Passara Common Play Grounds in Badulla district.

The anniversary rally will begin at 2 p.m. under the patronage of party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe under the theme "Honorable Country - Prosperous tomorrow".

UNP Leadership Council, the members of the Working Committee, the MPs, the Provincial Councilors and the local government members of the party are to participate in the rally Saturday.

The main propaganda meeting for Uva provincial elections will also commence in conjunction with the anniversary.

UNP sources say that the party leader is expected to announce a major change in the party positions at this anniversary rally.

Speculations are rife that party leader Wickremasinghe will appoint the Hambantota district parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa once again to the deputy leader position.

UNP was formed on 06 September, 1946 under the leadership of D.S. Senanayake who became the island's first Prime Minister.
