Fri, Sep 5, 2014, 08:00 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka police expect to bring a Sri Lankan national wanted for robbing a jewellery store from Malaysia to the country today.

The man extradited from Malaysia is identified as Peter Sampath Ruwansiri a.k.a. Apple Ruwan. He has fled to Malaysia after robbing the Jewel Lanka Ltd, in Negombo last April.

Apple Ruwan and a team of criminals along with the United National Party (UNP) Western Province Councilor allegedly robbed gold jewellery and foreign currency to the tune of Rs. 20 million at gunpoint.

He was arrested by Malaysian authorities in Kuala Lumpur for staying without a visa and further investigations revealed that he is a wanted fugitive in Sri Lanka.

He has had two passports and two Sri Lankan national identity cards in his possession when he was arrested.

The Malaysian authorities have handed over the suspect to a police team from Sri Lanka yesterday.
