Sept 04, Colombo: A mayor of a local government has filed a lawsuit against a minister of the Sri Lankan government claiming damages of Rs. 50 0 million for defamation.

Kaduwela Municipal Council Mayor G. H. Buddhadasa today filed a lawsuit against National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Minister of Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa and the NFF General Secretary at the Colombo District Court.

The Mayor claimed that the respondents unveiled a publication called 'Panchayudhaya' with defamatory remarks on him and sought damages of Rs. 500 million.

The publication was launched at the second national convention of the NFF held in April this year.
