Sept 04, Colombo: The United States Embassy in Colombo is transitioning to a new online appointment service for the non-immigrant visas starting September 7, 2014.
The new process is designed to be more convenient and user-friendly and has been implemented at U.S. embassies worldwide.
In addition, call center representatives will substantially expand available hours for visa applicants to obtain information by phone for free at +94-11-7703703. These representatives will be available from Monday-Friday, 8:00am-8:00pm (local time) starting September 8, 2014.
More information about these changes, a link to the new scheduling website, as well as general visa information can be found on the Embassy website, http://srilanka.usembassy.gov. Website and call center services will be provided in English, Sinhala, and Tamil.
New Non-Immigrant Visa Application Procedure
1. Complete your visa application form (DS-160) at http://ceac.state.gov/genniv.
Beginning September 7, 2014, visit our new scheduling website www.ustraveldocs.com/lk to create an account and print your bank deposit slip.
Bring the bank deposit slip to a local DFCC Bank to pay the required application fee.
After paying the fee, wait one to two business days for your payment to appear in the system.
Log on to the scheduling website www.ustraveldocs.com/lk to make your interview appointment using your bank receipt payment number.
Come to the Embassy for your scheduled appointment with required documentation.
If your visa is approved, you will be given a date and time to pick it up at the Embassy.
The Embassy website and the call center are the only official sources of general visa information and are the only authorized methods to schedule a personal visa interview. Applicants who have scheduled an appointment under the old system should proceed using the earlier appointment and payment procedures.
