* Sri Lanka Cricket appoints 11-member committee to select national coach

Sept 04, Colombo: The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket at its meeting held Monday has decided to fill the vacancies of the coaching department due to the recent vacuum that was created.

The Executive Committee has appointed an 11-member committee to fill the vacant coaching positions with experienced and qualified persons at the earliest.

The committee appointed to select a coach for the national team comprises Asanga Seneviratne, Mohan De Silva, Nishantha Ranatunga, Hirantha Perera, Nuski Mohamed, Sanath Jayasuriya, Jayananda Warnaweera, Shammi Silva, Dushan Soyza, Ranjit Fernando, and Head of Coaching Jerome Jayaratne.

Sri Lanka Cricket has received 17 applications - one local and 16 foreign - for the post of National Coach. Interim coach Marvan Atapattu and former Sri Lanka coach Dave Whatmore have also applied.

Furthermore, 17 persons including two Sri Lankans have applied for the position of fielding coach and 15 persons including two Sri Lankans have applied for the post of National Trainer.

The tour of England team, New Zealand tour and the World Cup are ahead of the new coaches.
