Mon, Sep 1, 2014, 11:17 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 01, Moneragala: Stressing that the best thing a society can give its children is education, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today that it is parents' responsibility to provide an opportunity for the children to receive the benefits of free education.

"Everybody has a responsibility to offer the children the opportunities we didn't get in the past," the President said opening of Mahindodaya Technical Laboratories in three schools of Moneragala district Monday.

The President declared open the laboratories built in Dombagahawela Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Medirigiriya Rajyananda Madya Maha Vidyalaya and Vipulananda Tamil Maha Vidyalaya. The Technical Laboratories have been provided under the Mahindodaya 1,000 school programme.

President Rajapaksa recalled that a society, in which everybody can live without any fear and suspicion, has been built today. He said it is his pleasure to see the children, who lived with fear of terrorists; without the chance for education or even with no food, are having the opportunity for education with freedom today.

The President also requested the parents to gift the children a peaceful and developed country, without betraying the hard won freedom.
