* Sri Lankan youth withdraws more than hundred times of his savings from ATMs

July 30, Colombo: A seventeen year old youth was produced in a Sri Lankan court today for fraudulently withdrawing more than 100 times of the amount he deposited in his account.

The young offender ,who is a resident of Polonnaruwa, was produced in Colombo Magistrate Court today on a complaint lodged by a bank branch in Ja-Ela.

The bank said that the individual had opened an account in the bank in January this year and made a deposit of Rs. 163,000 in a savings account.

However, he had withdrawn Rs. 17.8 million from teller machines in various parts of the country in around 658 locations.

The bank said that the offender had been able to do so due to a fault in the computer system of the bank.

Colombo Magistrate Thilina Gamage released the youth on Rs. 50,000 bail with two sureties of one million rupees each after he pleaded guilty and promised to pay the due amount in installments
