Sat, Jul 26, 2014, 08:59 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said the mental and physical improvement gained in the Ramadan month helps to build a better society and life.

In a message to the Muslim Community observing Ramada, the Opposition Leader said the Muslims determine to apply the noble practices of Ramadan in the other months also without limiting them to one month.

Full text of Opposition Leader's Ramadan Message is as follows:

Month long Ramadan fast which aspires defeating the deception and making the truth victorious is one of the five major pillars of the Islam.

The aim of fasting is not mere starvation but building up ones life through benevolence, compassion and tolerance gained by fasting.

The mental and physical improvement gained in the Ramadan month helps to build up a better society and life.

Engaging in lessening the social differences by way of sacrificing a part of ones hard earned fortune also helps to enhance the brotherhood.

Holy Koran also came to existence for the first time in a Ramadan month.

The Muslims determine to apply the noble practices of Ramadan in the other months also without limiting them to one month. Appreciating that great aim of the Muslims, I wish a happy new year to all Muslims at their holy festival.
