* Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka to visit North

July 17, Colombo: Officials from Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka are scheduled to visit North today (July 17) on an inspection tour to the war-torn region.

The officials plan to inspect several districts in the North during their 4-day visit and conduct workshops according to the National Action Plan for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, the HRC commissioner Dr. Prathiba Mahanama Hewa said.

The workshops will be conducted in the Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.

Civilians, members of the police, and the army as well as the civil organization representatives are to participate in the workshops.

The Commissioner expressed hope that the workshops would enable the success of the activities pertaining to human rights.
