* Nominations for Uva PC polls in Sri Lanka to be received from 30th

July 16, Colombo: The nominations for the upcoming election in Uva Provincial Council will be received from the 30th of this month.

Election Secretariat said that all the arrangements are now in place to accept nominations from the political parties and independent groups contesting the elections for Uva PC until the 6th of August.

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya announced that the candidates can submit their nominations to the special centers to be set up at the district secretariat.

The candidates will also able to make deposits for the election from the 30th of this month to the 5th of August.

The Election Commissioner has also confirmed the number of members to be represented in the Uva PC from the Moneragala and Badulla district.

Badulla district of the Province will have 18 members in the Council and Moneragala district will have 14 councilors.

The political parties for independent groups can nominate 21 and 17 candidates for the Badulla and Moneragala district respectively.

The Secretary of the political party or the leader of the independent group which obtains highest number of votes is able to nominate two candidates for the bonus seats.

The Election Commissioner will announce the date for election after nominations deadline.
