July 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have recovered nine kilograms of heroin worth Rs. 63 million when the suspects were engaged in transporting them.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the police seized the nine kilograms of heroin in Nedimala, Kadawatha Road last night when a suspect was transporting the stash.
When the officials inspected the vehicle they found the heroin, packed in nine separate packets, each weighing a kilogram.
The Spokesman added that so far this year the police have seized 133 kilograms of narcotics and arrested 12 suspects who had links to the international drug trade.
He said the information on the latest arrest was received from the suspects who were recently arrested in Biyagama on Kelaniya road with 85 kilograms of heroin which were found in their possession on.
Police arrested a suspect, identified as Chinthaka Kumara Dias, a resident of Mirihana, Nugegoda.
SSP Rohan said that the heroin seized today belonged to two drug kingpins, called, Gampola Vidanalage Samantha Kumara a.k.a. Wele Suda and Mohammed Siddeek and the suspect arrested works for them.
The Police had released the photographs of the two drug dealers who were reportedly hiding in Dubai or Pakistan and handling drug mafia in Sri Lanka. The police had issued an Interpol Red Notice on Samantha Kumara.
SSP Rohana said the police are closely working with Sri Lanka Customs, Department of Excise, Department of Immigration and Emigration to combat the drug trade.
