* Sri Lanka main opposition to submit a petition against Election Commissioner tomorrow
Wed, Jul 16, 2014, 10:44 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition, United National Party (UNP) has planned to take legal action against the government for changing the redistribution of seats in the Uva Provincial Council.

UNP Badulla district MP Harin Fernando said that a case will be filed against the Election Commissioner in the Supreme Court tomorrow.

Fernando said that the government's move was aimed at preventing the UNP defeating the government in Badulla district and forming the rule in the Uva Provincial Council.

The Department of Election Commissioner has decided to reduce three seats of Badulla district of Uva Province and add them to Moneragala district.

Accordingly, the number of seats in Badulla district reduces to 18 while Moneragala district will have 14 seats.

UNP charges that the change will make a voter - representative ratio of 32,000:1 in Moneragala district and 45,000:1 in Badulla district causing injustice to voters of Badulla district.
