July 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling party, United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) today will appoint the nomination board for the Uva Provincial Council election.
The nomination committee will be appointed at the central committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) which will be held this afternoon under the patronage of the party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The nomination committee will comprise SLFP seniors in the Uva Province and other senior party officials, sources say.
Incumbent Chief Minister of the Uva Provincial Council Sashendra Rajapaksa is slated to contest the election as the Chief Minister candidate of the ruling alliance.
The SLFP will contest the election as the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and will allocate some slots of the nomination lists for the minor parties of the alliance.
The Uva Provincial Council which administers the two districts of Badulla and Moneragala, was dissolved Saturday midnight.
