July 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) has appointed a committee to compile a party policy manifesto aimed for the national elections in the future.

The 20-member committee, among others, includes UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya, Sajith Premadasa, Ravi Karunanayaka, Gayantha Karunathilaka, and Ruwan Wijewardena.

The first meeting of the committee was held last week in the parliamentary premises under the patronage of the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.

UNP's rebel faction leader Sajith Premadasa also participated in the meeting but he did not speak, UNP internal sources said.

According to the sources, the UNP will field Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe as the party candidate of a future Presidential election with the support of the party's rebel faction.
