* Sri Lanka Minister reveals the plans for Colombo - Ratnapura expressway

July 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka Project Minister of Ports and Highways Nirmala Kothalawala revealed the plans for the expressway from Ratnapura to Colombo.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Minister of Ports and Highways, has approved the construction of the new expressway linked to the Southern Expressway.

Minister Kothalawala said the new expressway would be constructed from to Ingiriya to Pelmadulla. The road will be connected to the Southern expressway at the Gelanigama interchange close to Panadura.

The new expressway will be named as the Ruwanpura Expressway.

The Minister further stated that the proposed expressway would be built on state land and swamps and therefore no large acquisition of land would be needed.

Minister Kothalawala also revealed that discussions were underway with China to obtain credit facilities for this project.
