* Uva Provincial Council of Sri Lanka to be dissolved today

July 11, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will dissolve the Uva Provincial Council by midnight Friday, government sources said.

The Chief Minister of the Provincial Council Sashendra Rajapaksa is expected to request the Governor C. Nanda Mathew to dissolve the Uva Provincial Council.

The term of the Uva provincial council is due to end on September 26 but the government has planned to dissolve the council before the term expires and hold the election in September.

Meanwhile, all the major political parties are preparing to campaign for the election in the Uva Provincial Council.

Incumbent Chief Minister Sashendra Rajapaksa will contest as the Chief Minister candidate of the ruling coalition while Badulla district MP Harin Fernando is slated to contest for the post from opposition United National Party.
