July 08, Colombo: The executive committee of the Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) will meet on July 11 to discuss and decide on the trade union actions to be initiated.

A spokesman of the FUTA said that the time given to the Ministry of Higher Education to grant solutions to their demands will end on July 10th.

The executive committee is expected to come to a stern decision not to further discuss the demands since everything has been discussed extensively, the spokesman of the FUTA said.

The university teachers set forth their demands including withdrawing the conditions for the research allowance of the lecturers, increase of salary and revoking the decision to establish private universities.

The university teachers also held a token strike on May 03 on these demands.
