* Over 2800 science diploma holders in Sri Lanka receive science teaching appointments

July 07, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa awarded letters of appointment to over 2,800 science teachers at a ceremony held in the Sugathadasa indoor stadium in Colombo today.

President Rajapaksa presented permanent appointments to 2,808 National Science Diploma Holders from National Colleges of Education in the 2011/2013 academic years.

The recruitments have been carried out for the subjects of science mathematics and information technology covering the entire island.

At the occasion, Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Mahinda Madihahewa presented to the President the report of a committee appointed and headed by him to coordinate the growth of productivity and efficiency in the educational services.

Deputy Minister of Education Services Mohan Lal Grero, Chief Minister of Western Province Prasanna Ranatunga, Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake, Chief Minister of Eastern Province Abdul Najid Majid and Secretary to the Education Ministry Anura Dissanayaka were also present at the event.
