Dec 24, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court has issued a warrant to arrest a deputy minister of government for obstruction of justice by attempting to remove three suspects arrested for an attack on opposition candidate's election rally stage.

Baddegama Magistrate Chandima Edirimanna today issued a warrant to arrest the Deputy Minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama and his driver.

The police launched an investigation on the incident where Mutuhettigama forcibly took away three suspects, arrested for the arson attack on an opposition stage in Wanduramba, Galle, from the police custody.

The police arrested the three supporters of deputy minister for setting fire to a stage set up for the common opposition candidate's rally in Wanduramba last week.

Minister Mutuhettigama had allegedly attempted to get the suspects, removed from police custody by force while they were being escorted to Courts.
