* Sri Lanka Police to investigate ruling party minister taking suspects of arson attack away from police custody

Dec 20, Colombo: The police had launched an investigation on an incident where a deputy minister of Sri Lanka ruling party has forcibly taken away three suspects, arrested for the arson attack on an opposition stage in Wanduramba, Galle, from the police custody.

The police arrested three supporters of deputy minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama for setting fire to a stage set up for the common opposition candidate's rally in Wanduramba Wednesday.

The deputy minister has entered the police station and forcibly taken the three suspects -Janaka Duminda, K.G. Janaka Kumara and S.A. Dimuthu Pradeep - to the courts in his vehicle while the police were getting ready to take the suspects to be produced before Baddegama Magistrate.

Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that an investigation will be carried out on the incident.

Baddegama Magistrate ordered to remand the three suspects until the 29th of this month.
