* Sri Lanka Election Commissioner promises legal action against illegal election propaganda

Aug 30, Colombo: The Election Department has commenced dismantling and removing illegal campaign offices in the Uva Province.

Commissioner of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya said that the officials of the Department, with the assistance of the police, are working towards dismantling unauthorized campaign offices of political parties before the September 20th election.

Meanwhile, the removal of illegal propaganda offices in the areas between Moneragala and Wellawaya took place on Thursday.

The Elections Commissioner noted that even though such offices were removed earlier, some political parties tend to reconstruct such offices. He said legal action will be taken against such repeating violators.
