* Pakistani national suspected of mega heroin hauls arrested at Sri Lanka airport

Aug 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) has arrested a Pakistani national at the Bandaranaike International Airport on suspicion that he is the main trafficker behind the large hauls of heroin detected in the island.

The Pakistani national is believed to be the main suspect in connection with the recent detection of 59 kilograms of heroin recovered from Katugasthota, near the central hill capital of Kandy on August 14 and the 93 kilograms of heroin haul at the Orugodawatta container yard on July 21st.

The suspect, Shakeel Ahmad was arrested at the International Airport when he was returning from Karachi around 10 pm Saturday.

Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the arrested Pakistani is involved in both cases.

The suspect is currently being interrogated by the Police Narcotic Bureau.
