Aug 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) appointed five party activists as electoral organizers today.
UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and his soon-to-be deputy leader Sajith Premadasa together attended the ceremony to appoint the new party organizers.
Western Provincial Councilor S.M Marrikkar has been appointed as a new organizer for Kolonnawa electorate.
Thushara Amarasena, former private secretary of North Western Province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, was appointed as the electoral organizer of Panduwasnuwara, the electorate formerly organized by Jayasekara before he crossed over to the government.
Chairman of the Leadership Council MP Karu Jayasuriya and general Secretary of UNP MP Tissa Attanayake were also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Managers of the Colombo District also met party leader Wickremasinghe to discuss the progress of the activities in Colombo District.
Youth issues, recruitment of new members, member retention, member motivation, handling the polling booths and several other matters were discussed in length at the meeting.
Wickremasinghe has explained the needs of preparation for the grassroots level members for Presidential election at any time. Managers have pledged to do their best to ensure the victory of UNP at the forthcoming elections.
Colombo District Manager Lasantha Goonewardna has briefed the UNP Leader on the activities carried so far and pledged that they will complete the assigned tasks at the given time schedule.
Councilor Marrikkar has briefed the participants on the youth development activities planned for Colombo District and requested the fullest cooperation from the Managers to achieve the desired results.
