* Sri Lanka suspends on-arrival visa facility for four Ebola-affected countries
Fri, Aug 22, 2014, 12:40 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 22, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has temporarily suspended the on-arrival visa facility for visitors, with respect to four African countries, with immediate effect.

The measure has been taken as a precautionary step to prevent the entry of Ebola virus in to the country, a senior official of the External Affairs Ministry said.

The on-arrival visa will be suspended until further notice for four African countries - Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Guinea.

The decision was taken following a request made by the Ministry of Health, as a precautionary action to reduce the possibility of persons infected with Ebola virus entering the island.

According to WHO reports, the current outbreak of Ebola has killed over 1,350 people and Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are the hardest hit. There have been 15 reported cases in Nigeria and four people have died.
