KDU International Research Conference 2014 will be held on the 21st and 22nd of August 2014 at the KDU premises on the theme "Expanding Developmental Horizons through Education, Research and Innovation".

KDU says, In line with a university's responsibility to generate new knowledge that can assist in national development, the conference has been organized for a wider national and international scholar community.

The conference, will bring together distinguished researchers from an array of disciplines such as Engineering, Medicine, Allied Health Sciences, Law, Management and Finances, Mathematics, IT, Defence Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences.

This year's conference is expected to draw together more than 160 scholars to present their research in an international forum. Two awards for the Best Paper and the Best Poster have been introduced this year to recognize and promote quality research within academia.

In addition, the conference aims to provide them a platform for disseminating research findings, exchanging contemporary knowledge and building partnerships and collaborations to advance research and thereby contribute to national development, the organizers say.

A number of foreign and local dignitaries will speak at the plenary sessions. Senior military officers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and China will speak in the Defence plenary session.

The organizers believe that this year's international conference would provide a vibrant platform to promote and disseminate research that would be part and parcel of a nation's development.

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University is the only university offering graduate courses in defense studies in the South Asian region.
