* Sri Lanka Election Department to deploy 10,000 officers for Uva Provincial Council election

Aug 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Election Department will deploy some 10,000 election officers for election duties at the upcoming elections for Uva Provincial Council, the Department said.

In addition, another group of election officials will be stationed for the vote counting process.

The Election Department two armed police officers will also be deployed for each polling station. The officers will be deployed two days prior to the election date, according to police.

The Uva Provincial Council election will be held on the 20 September.

A total of 617 candidates - 323 for Moneragala district and 294 for Badulla district- representing 4 political parties and 11 independent groups will contest the election for the 14 councilor posts in Moneragala district and 18 for the Badulla district.
