* Cosmetic surgeon remanded in Sri Lanka after client's death

Aug 13, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today remanded a cosmetic surgeon of a private cosmetic surgery clinic following the death of a client.

The deceased client, a 47-year-old female doctor has received an injectable anti-aging formulation from a cosmetology clinic in Colombo.

The police arrested the owner of the cosmetic clinic Dr. Nimal Gamage yesterday and produced before the court today.

Colombo Magistrate court ordered the suspect to be held in remand custody till 18 August.

The victim, Dr. P.A. Priyangi of Nawala was a specialist attached to the Plastic Surgery Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children in Colombo.

The victim has died a few minutes after receiving an injection of the anti-aging agent yesterday at Dr. Gamage's clinic located in Visakha Road Bambalapitiya.

The Health ministry had launched an investigation into the incident and Director General Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala has ordered a special investigative team of the National Pharmaceutical Authority to raid the cosmetic surgery clinic.

The investigators are still obtaining statements from the workers attached to the clinic.
