* Court orders police security for Sri Lanka Bar Association President
Fri, Aug 8, 2014, 10:23 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 08, Colombo: Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today ordered the Colombo Central Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to provide security to Sri Lanka Bar Association(BASL) President Upul Jayasuriya until August 11.

The Magistrate on August 5 issued notice to Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order, Nanda Mallawarachchi to appear before the courts to show cause for failing to provide security to the BASL President.

The court earlier summoned Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Western Province Anura Senanayake to appear in court Tuesday, August 05 and inform the progress of investigations into the following of Mr. Jayasuriya's vehicle by two unknown persons.

However, DIG Senanayake was not in courts Tuesday as he has left for Pakistan with an External Affairs Ministry delegation.

The Magistrate then issued notice for Mr. Mallawarachchi to appear before the courts on August 8 but he was also with the delegation to Pakistan.

The court then ordered the SSP to provide security to BASL President until the case is heard again when Mallawarachchi returns to country on August 11.
