Aug 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of Sri Lanka's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will celebrate its 63rd anniversary in Badulla on 02 September under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The SLFP anniversary will be held in parallel to the election campaign for the Uva Provincial Council.
SLFP general secretary Maithripala Sirisena said that the party's national election committee will meet in Badulla on August 10 to discuss the organizing of the election campaign and the anniversary celebrations.
The SLFP secretary further said that the provincial leaders of the Badulla and Moneragala districts of the Uva Province will also participate in the meeting.
SLFP was founded by the 4th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka late S.W.R.D Bandaranaike in 1951 and, since then, it has been one of the two largest parties in the Sri Lankan political arena.
