Aug 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka police Tuesday night arrested an opposition party member of a local government for treasure hunting.

The police arrested Mahinda Wijenayake, a United National Party (UNP) member of the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha while he was attempting to take some treasure buried in the sacred city of Seruwavila

The Police also stated that there was a retired soldier involved in the treasure hunting incident.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, the police have arrested six people for treasure hunting in Surangal area in Kinniya of Trincomalee district. Police said that there was a retired army major also involved in the treasure hunting incident.

The suspects were produced before court Wednesday (06).
