* Accepting nominations for Uva PC polls in Sri Lanka ends, election on September 20

Aug 06, Colombo: Accepting nominations for Uva PC polls in Sri Lanka ended at 12 noon Wednesday and the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has announced the election date.

The Election Commissioner has announced that the Returning Officers have been issued instructions to take necessary action to hold the poll in the Uva Provincial Council Election on Saturday 20th September 2014.

Former Chief Minister of the Uva Province Sashendra Rajapaksa handed over the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) nominations today for Moneragala District former Provincial Council Minister A.M. Buddadasa handed over for the Badulla district.

A total of 15 political parties and independent groups have paid deposits and handed over nominations.

Ruling party ally, National Freedom Front decided to contest the Badulla District independently while handed over nominations for Moneragala District under the UPFA ticket.

The provision of preferential numbers to the candidates will take place at the district secretariats of Badulla and Moneragala on next Monday.
