* Court summons Law and Order Ministry Secretary over Sri Lanka Bar Association President's security

Aug 06, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court Tuesday issued notice for Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order to appear before courts over providing security to the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued notice today (August 5) to Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order, Nanda Mallawarachchi to appear before the courts to show cause for failing to provide security to the BASL President attorney Upul Jayasuriya.

The court summoned Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Western Province Anura Senanayake to appear in court Tuesday, August 05 and inform the progress of investigations into the following of Mr. Jayasuriya's vehicle by two unknown persons.

However, DIG Senanayake was not in courts Tuesday as he has left for Pakistan to attend a conference on narcotics

Police Superintendent Palitha Siriwardena representing the DIG said a report on the progress of investigations on Mr. Jayasuriya's complaint has been submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry.

Magistrate then issued notice for Mr. Mallawarachchi to appear before the courts on August 8.
