Aug 04, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today summoned a senior police officer to show cause for failing to provide security to the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
Colombo Magistrate Court summoned Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Western Province Anura Senanayake to appear in court tomorrow, August 05.
The DIG is summoned to report facts about deploying police officers for the safety of the life of President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka Attorney Upul Jayasuriya.
Former Attorney General Thilak Marapone reported to the court through a motion that police had not still provided security to the BASL President.
He also cited that action has not been taken despite the complaints to police regarding suspicious persons and the details submitted about them and the vehicles used by them.
Jayasuriya has lodged several complaints now regarding the persons who are following him in a threatening manner. Motor Traffic Commissioner's office said that the numbers of vehicles provided by the BASL President were not valid. CCTV camera recordings were also recovered as evidence for the incident.
